The Land of my Father is a book of fiction, set in post-apartheid South Africa, that takes the reader from rural Mkuze to the coastal city of Durban, the cosmopolitan township of Chatsworth and the bustling streets of the Johannesburg metropolis.
994 saw the dawn of the South African democracy to a previously shackled nation.
Years of oppression and apartheid rule were finally being put to bed, as promises of a new era, full of hope, lay ahead. For eleven-year-old Zinhle and eight-year-old Simphiwe, the dawn of the new democracy never arrived. Instead, it saw them fleeing for their lives. Plagued by heartache and separation, The Land of my Father follows the journey of two siblings, their fight for survival amidst corruption, betrayal and murder in a land that appears to have failed its innocents, and their desire to rebuild, against all odds. The book is steeped in South African history without losing focus on human emotion.

The book highlights the scourge of human trafficking. Current statistics show that there are 40.3 million people across the globe who are currently victims of modern-day slavery, and yet, we know so little about it. The Land of my Father creates an awareness to this very real, but often ignored, threat to society
